How to get your syslog

If something on your iPhone is causing problems, the System Log (syslog) is generally able show some debugging data, making it easier to find and solve the problem.

There are several different ways to obtain a syslog for your iPhone, but I find the SBSettings toggle the easiest way.

Steps (the following links should link you to the package in Cydia from your iPhone)

  1. Install SBSettings.
  2. Install Syslog Toggle.
  3. Replicate your problem.
  4. Use WinSCP or Cyberduck (or similar) to ssh into your iPhone and copy over the file located at /var/log/syslog
  5. Copy this to a site like Pastie and email the link, or email me with it attached.
